Follow the 'heavy' crew of a Virgin Atlantic 747-400 flying from London Heathrow to San Francisco. After route review, weather briefing and checking of NOTAMs, alternate airports etc. we proceed to G-VXLG for the walk-round inspection followed by pre-start procedures, pushback, engine start, taxi and departure - all covered with multiple camera angles including external views.
Once established in the cruise Captain Alan Carter takes the viewer on a conducted tour of the 747-400 flightdeck, including the Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) and Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) as well as the electrical, hydraulic and air conditioning systems.
First Officer Allan Rattigan then takes over to explain the performance calculations and Flight Management Computer (FMC), followed by First Officer John Cullcom's briefing on the Mode Control Panel (MCP). The flight concludes with the descent and approach into San Francisco.
In-the-Cockpit Videos is a growing series of professional quality, well-produced footage of actual flights in airliners viewed from the cockpit 'jumpseat'. The detailed commentary providing explanations of aircraft systems and procedures in the course of a typical flight and the production standards set these videos apart as the best of their kind.
Running time approx. 166 minutes.
