The Leyland Titan bus has a special place in the transport history of London. Known as the T class they operated on front-line OPO services in the capital from 1978 up to 2003.

The genesis of the T class lay in the reliability problems London Transport were experiencing with their Daimler Fleetline DMS class vehicles in the early 1970s. A replacement design was urgently needed and the London Transport design team co-operated with Leyland to produce the Titan T class bus. This proved to be the last double-deck bus in which London Transport participated in the design. The first public run was on 4th December 1978.

In total 1,131 T class Titan buses operated front-line services in London, most of them bought new but six were acquired secondhand. As a result of the financial problems of London Buses Limited many T class buses came onto the secondhand market, a lot of them under a decade old. Some left London while others stayed in London with other operators.

The final example in front-line revenue service with London Buses Limited was T1018, which operated until 19th June 2003. Since that time many of the fleet have continued in traffic on schools and private hire services across the whole of Britain.

This well-illustrated book covers in detail the complete history of the final London Transport designed double-deck bus.
