One of the greatest names in the history of the British bus industry, the Birmingham & Midland Motor Omnibus Co - Midland Red - was formed in 1904. The company grew to become one of the most important regional operators of buses, dominating rural services through much of the West and East Midlands and urban services in places such as Shrewsbury, Leamington Spa, Lichfield and Stratford-upon-Avon.

This title concentrates on the background to the day-to-day operations of the company. Individual chapters examine vehicle maintenance and construction, the role of the depot manager and bus crews to provide an overview of how a major bus company operated in the years between the end of WW2 and the incorporation of Midland Red into the National Bus Company in 1969.
