Wallace Arnold, one of the leading UK coach holiday companies, was established in 1912 and was named after its founders. The company was based in Leeds although its coaches were to be seen throughout the British Isles on tours. Wallace Arnold was synonymous with the classic British package coach tour. The company more or less invented this concept and operated tours up and down the country, in the main, to seaside resorts.
The company was one the early pioneers of this type of holiday which proved attractive for many customers. As the range of destinations offered expanded, from fairly modest beginnings, Wallace Arnold flourished and its coaches became a regular sight in bus and coach stations around the country.
This addition to the highly successful GLORY DAYS series begins with a look at the early history of the company though the main focus of the book will be on the activities of Wallace Arnold and the range of vehicles which it operated from the end of the Second World War through to the late 1970s. This was the period in which the market for coach travel to the seaside and elsewhere grew rapidly.
Wallace Arnold was one of the major players in this market and its business flourished. The book follows the established GLORY DAYS format which includes an authoritative narrative and many mono and colour illustrations. company during this period.
