Sub-titled 'The Weymouth & Portland Railway The Easton & Church Hope Railway'.
This volume covers the branch from Weymouth of the Weymouth & Portland Railway, and the extension to the top of the island constructed for the Easton & Church Hope Railway. The Portland branch linked Weymouth with Portland, and the later extension took it to the centre of the Island at Easton.
The line was built by two separate companies but was operated jointly as a single unit by the Great Western Railway and the London & South Western Railway. The Weymouth & Portland and the Easton & Church Hope companies are each dealt with separately until the latter was completed to form one continuous line, although they retained their separate identities until Nationalisation in 1948.
With over 30 years researching transport on the Isle of Portland, the author has been dependent upon access to such documents as survive supplemented by the memories of those people concerned with the lines.
