The Highland Railway was well known for having painted some of its steam locomotives a shade of yellow. The resulting locomotives were distinctive but were far from easy to keep clean, the steam locomotive being a machine which carried coal, ashes and oil (substances which would quickly show up if the loco was not cleaned).
This authoritative book covers all the liveries of the Highland Railway Company and is illustrated by well over 100 photographs.
