Class L1, V1 and V3. Gresley & Thompson 6-coupled Tanks. A well illustrated volume covering 2-6-2T and 2-6-4T locomotives. Gresley was famous for his stylish designs for the Great Northern Railway. Even he had difficulty bringing his legendary style to tank locomotives.
This volume contains all the usual details for each class member, with repair dates, allocations, withdrawal details and much more. The V1 and V3 Companions formed a class of 92 engines and the later L1 comprised 100. The prototype L1 appeared in 1945 and the next was not produced until 1948.
