Even today Dublin is a busy rail centre, with an electrified suburban network, diesel hauled trains to important towns in Ireland and international trains which cross the border into Northern Ireland.
At one time the main stations in Dublin were Heuston (near the famous Inchicore works), Broadstone, Connolly, Pearse and Harcourt Street, with the freight yards at North Wall.
Irish locomotives have always been of special interest to British enthusiasts, being familiar, but not quite the same as those in Britain. This was true of the steam engines and remains true of today's diesels.
