We are fortunate that the West Somerset Railway (WSR) has survived into the preservation era. Prior to preservation it was the Minehead branch of the Great Western Railway (GWR). Upon nationalisation and the formation of British Railways (BR) in 1948 it became part of the Western Region (WR).
This is a well-illustrated volume about the locomotives, rolling stock and infrastructure which together formed this typical GWR line. It might inspire you to visit this steam operated route.
