A reprint of this popular album, containing colour photographs from the 1960s and 1970s by well-known railway photographers.
In later times the West Country was home to diesel-hydraulic locomotives in the D800 Warship series and D1000 Western series. These made Plymouth Laira depot something of a Mecca for enthusiasts. Other diesel-hydraulic types, such as the D600 series and D6300 series had worked in the area in earlier times.
Apart from the locomotives these photographs illustrate the Great Western Railway stations, signals, signalboxes, footbridges, viaducts etc. But above all they show the railway in the context of superb Devon and Cornwall scenery.
