As the title of the book indicates, this volume contains a general survey of LNER tenders plus the allocations of the Great Central ones.
After the formation of the GCR (Great Central Railway) the locomotive superintendents H Pollitt and J G Robinson had their own distinctive tender designs. Indeed the Robinson design could be found on other company's lines and even in other countries as a result of Robinson locomotives having been built for the Ministry of Munitions during the First World War, and later sold off as war surplus.
