This book continues the historical survey of GNR 0-6-0 tender classes begun in volume 37A by looking at classes J5 to J7.
Also covered are the 0-6-0 tender locomotives of classes J40 and J41 which were designed by S W Johnson for the M&GNR (Midland & Great Northern Railway). These were similar to locomotives on the MR (Midland Railway) and were somewhat different to the GNR 0-6-0 locomotives. The M&GNR ones remained jointly owned by the LMS and LNER until becoming LNER stock in October 1936. The type lasted into the BR early era.
