Classes C10, C11, C15, C16 & D11/2. Compiled by W B Yeadon.
The LNER class C10 4-4-2 tender locomotives were originally NBR (North British Railway) class H. These "Atlantic" steam locomotives were designed by W P Reid and were introduced to haul the company's main express trains. Some of them were rebuilt as NBR class I, which later became LNER class C11.
W P Reid also produced the NBR class M 4-4-2T, which became LNER class C15. These were often known as "Yorkshire Tanks", named after the Yorkshire Engine Company who had built them.
The LNER Class C16 4-4-2Ts were originally NBR class L. These were superheated.
By contrast to the other classes in this book the LNER class D11/2 were 4-4-0 tender locomotives. These were similar to the former GCR class D11/1 but were slightly smaller in order to fit the NBR loading gauge.
