Sub-Titled: Locomotives
Since the publication in 1982 of the first volume of this work by David Bartholomew, Mike Barnsley has worked hard to complete a thorough and detailed account of the locomotives and rolling stock employed by the MSWJR and its predecessor, the Swindon, Marlborough and Andover Railway. Coverage is also given to the subsequent histories of stock sold out of service prior to 1923 and of stock taken over the Great Western Railway at the grouping.
Although conceived as a single volume, when it came to production, Mike Barnsley's writings and illustrations provided to be far more extensive than anticipated. So the second book has been divided into separate volumes on locomotives and stock respectively. The section and page numbers will nevertheless continue through both volumes as if they remained a single book. The introduction covers the whole of Mike Barnsley`s work which will now become Volumes 2 and 3.
