Sub-Titled: Goods Tender Classes
With this fourth volume we come to the end of the first part of the series and it is not difficult to see why no one has previously tackled a history of Midland Railway locomotives. Whilst the authors do not claim this to be a definitive work, they do believe that it will stand the test of time as an essential work of reference to students of the Midland Railway.
When embarking on this series, the authors believed that the passenger tender engine story covered in Volume 2 was the most difficult section, but now that Volume 4 has been completed, it is apparent that the goods engine story, told in this volume, was an even more complex tale to unravel.
