This part of the first main line between London and the Midlands had no intermediate stations initially. However their evolution is fully illustrated herein along with that of the trains of the route.
The route began as the London & Birmingham Railway (L&BR). Amalgamation with other companies resulted in the formation of the London & North Western Railway (L&NWR), otherwise known as the 'Premier Line'. At grouping it became part of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LM&SR).
The branches are shown in detail, including one covered in vegetation, but technically not closed.
