The fascinating past of this historically complex route is illustrated with photographs from diverse sources. Part of the London, Tilbury & Southend Railway (LT&SR), the line was taken over by the Midland Railway (MR) shortly before it became part of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMSR).
The photographs of the many goods depots in the City are of particular interest, as are those of the long-lost connections with other lines.
