Remembered with affection by local people, the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway followed the course of the Wisbech Canal along the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk county boundary.
The line was famous among railway enthusiasts for the use of GER tram engines. These were the real life inspiration for the character 'Toby' in Thomas the Tank Engine. Even in diesel days the line was unusual because the diesel shunters which ousted the steam tram engines were fitted with skirts.
This album brings to life the history of both tramway and waterway, with many unpublished photographs and a wealth of new historical material.
