The sequel to Isle of Wight Steam Sunset takes the story of the islands railways through tile traumatic year of 1966 and into 1967.
The video opens with scenes of the last day on the Cowes line before some rare footage shows the line some months after closure with overgrown tracks and shabby stations. We then look at the final days of the Shanklin to Ventnor section again with some fascinating views of the line after closure.
The final summer of steam operation is documented before we see signs of the impending electrification. With the pier closed to trains we view topping and tailing between the Esplanade and St Johns.
Other scenes show the pier under occupation by the engineers whilst at Sandown Calbourne is seen hauling the first electric motor car on gauging tests. The final quarter of the programme looks at the new electric service in the summer of 1967.
