A feast of archive film showing the locomotives of the East Coast main line between Kings Cross and York in the days of steam. We also see steam action on the former Great Eastern Railway and on the former London, Tilbury and Southend Railway line.

The principal express trains on the East Coast route were hauled by the famous Gresley and Thompson Pacific locomotives, many of which appropriately carried the names of famous racehorses. Other locomotives were famous in their own right; 'Flying Scotsman' being one example and 'Mallard', the world steam speed record holder, being another.

We see steam locomotives at Kings Cross loco shed, Kings Cross station, Peterborough station, Grantham loco shed, and at Doncaster station.

Next we visit the suburban lines from London's Liverpool Street station to Bethnal Green, Chingford and elsewhere. Plus former LMS 2-6-4T locomotives in action on the ex-LTSR line to Shoeburyness via Daganham.

There are also visits to Spalding, the Stainmore route and Bishops Auckland, plus the unusual electrified Grimsby & Immingham line and it's tramcars.
For many the highlight of this DVD will be the 1930s footage of the legendary 'Flying Scotsman'.
