Everyday scenes are captured at York on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) between 1959 and 1968, an era which saw the decline of the steam locomotive and the introduction of first-generation diesel power. Apart from trains, the programme looks at York station itself, which will be easily recognised by today's visitors.
More than 50 steam locomotives are featured, many of them of LNER origin. We also see 15 diesel hauled trains, pulled by locomotives which themselves followed the steam engines to the scrap yard.
