The Blue Pullman trains represented a leap forward in rail technology in Britain and were in many ways the forerunners of the HST formations which are still in use today. Their allure lay in the fact that they represented both modernity and luxurious travel.
BR put the Blue Pullman trains to work on prestigious services from London to Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. Their historical significance is that they were almost the last Pullman vehicles built for use in Britain.
This programme consists of three colour films of archive material which was specially commissioned in 1960 to document the trains being constructed, tested and running. The films give us a unique view of the 'state of the art' technology of the time.
