The railway journey between Middlesbrough and Whitby is along the former North Eastern Railway (NER) and was once very popular with holidaymakers.
We join a heritage class 144 diesel multiple unit (DMU) for this cab ride on 2nd February 1995. Departure from the station at Middlesbrough is at 10:36 and we arrive at the terminus at Whitby at 12:05. Most of the journey was filmed in sunshine.
There is no commentary, but the natural sounds of the DMU cab, plus conversations which take place there, form the soundtrack to this journey.
