Cajon Pass has long been recognised as one of the finest train watching locations in North America. Located north of San Bernardino, California, the Pass is used by Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe for their principal trans-continental routes into the Los Angeles Basin.
Union Pacific's former Southern Pacific line runs from West Colton yard to Palmdale and Tehachapi and UP also has running rights on BNSF's line from San Bernardino and Arstow.
Heavy traffic and scenic locations like the famed Sullivan's Curve, together with a rainbow of paint schemes from both UP and BNSF make Cajon a railfan's paradise.
Taped in April 1998, the hills are green, there are bright blue skies and the mountains are snow covered. Lots of SD units (including a 7 locomotive lash up) and GP 60Ms, together with new power, make for interesting railroading.
Check out the changes and scenic splendour of Cajon Pass, you'll be glad you did.
