56006 Immingham to Scunthorpe and Return
The steelworks at Scunthorpe receives large quantities of both iron ore and coal by rail from the docks at Immingham. For over 20 years class 56 locomotives, which were mostly built by Brush at Loughborough, were frequent performers on these well-loaded trains (and on the returning empty workings).
Many enthusiasts made their way to Barnetby, where the class 56s and other locomotive types could be photographed under the semaphore signal gantries.
This particular programme was shot on the 11th of December 2002 and illustrates 56006 in BR corporate blue livery hauling an Immingham to Scunthorpe coal train. It is of historical importance because the class 56s have now all been withdrawn and the era of these locomotives working hard on South Humberside has now passed.
