This programme was filmed in the period 1978-1981, capturing the distinctive sight and sound of the much-loved Class 55 English Electric Co-Co Deltic diesel-electric locomotives. The East Coast Main Line (ECML) is not the same without them.
Filming locations include both former Great Northern Railway (GNR) sites and North Eastern Railway (NER) sites: -

- Peterborough
- Newark
- Doncaster
- York
- Hull branch (Doncaster to Hull).
The whole fleet was named, some after racehorses, others after Army regiments. Such names added greatly to the level of interest in these locomotive. The programme ends with a review of the names.
