Driver's Eye View
A ride in the cab of a class 442 electric unit from Weymouth to London's Waterloo terminus. For the first few miles the route is that of the former Great Western Railway (GWR), but the great majority of the journey is along the former London & South Western Railway (LSWR) route.
Dorchester station today is much like any other, but in years gone by it marked the border between two railway companies and the steam hauled London-bound trains had to reverse into the terminal platform before resuming their journey. The line continues through Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton, Eastleigh, Winchester, Basingstoke, Woking and Clapham Junction.
As a bonus, the programme begins with scenes on the highly unusual Weymouth Quay branch as it runs through the narrow streets of the old town on its way to the Channel Islands ferry terminal.
Menu options cover the Weymouth Quay tramway and the section of line between Winchester and Basingstoke.
