This programme covers a wide variety of locations in England and Wales using footage taken between about 1960 and the early 1970s. Beginning in the North-East, several colliery systems are visited including Backworth, Philadelphia and South Hetton. On the opposite side of the Pennines, venues include the Shap Granite Company Ltd. and the Moss Bay Iron & Steel Works where a brand new RSH 0-6-0 saddletank is seen in steam.
Several collieries are then visited in the Yorkshire coalfield including Park Hill, Wheldale, Fryston, Peckfield, Skiers Spring and others. Moving on, we visit sites such as Redbourn steelworks, Eastwell quarries, the Kettering Iron & Coal Co. Ltd. and Corby steelworks. In Wales, venues include the Darwin & Mostyn Iron Co., Dinorwic slate quarries and a number of colliery systems in the South Wales coalfield.
