This comedy is one of the best of the productions made by the famous Ealing Studios. It was made in 1955 and stared Alec Guinness, Cecil Parker, Herbert Lom, Peter Sellers and Danny Green. Directed by Alexander Mackendrick.
A gang of robbers pose as musicians while staying at a boarding house above the railway tunnels outside Kings Cross station. They almost get away with the money, but instead they dispose of each other one by one, leaving the bewildered landlady unable to convince the police that the money is not hers.
One of the gang comes to a sticky end on the track. Another is despatched by the operation of a railway semaphore signal. All handled in the best traditions of the Ealing Studios comedies.
Originally on 8142 feet of 35mm film, it is now available in DVD format. This programme features excellent period comedy plus steam era scenes on the former Great Northern Railway (GNR) just north of Kings Cross. A family film which can be enjoyed again and again.
