Featuring four lines in China whose main purpose is the transport of coal, or of materials to service the steel industry.
First, pairs of QJs, sometimes banked, toil through a wintry landscape on the coal railway running southwards from Baotou through Dongsheng. Then, JS class 2-8-2s are seen on the short but spectacular Baotou - Shiguai branch.
Next, motive power in triplicate is seen as JS and SY class locos battle up the Chengde steelworks branch and finally, more JS class locos are seen at work in the completely different surroundings of southern China on the local railway based on Jinchengjiang. All the scenes were taken between 1999 and 2002.
