Steam locomotives spent a lot of time on shed, being coaled, watered, lit, examined, cleaned or repaired. Modern enthusiasts are unlikely to appreciate that locomotives once spent so much of their time 'on shed'.
This programme was filmed in the 1960s and the archive footage graphically shows what steam motive power depots were like. We see steam locomotives being prepared for duty and disposed of after their service. The locations include: -
- Ferryhill
- Newton Heath
- Dundee
- Crewe
- Willesden
- Bournemouth
- Warrington.
