Previous to this book, very little has been written about the LT&SR. This is somewhat surprising because this well-loved line operated an intensive commuter service, owned distinctive locomotives and saw significant holiday traffic.
The line became part of the Midland Railway in 1912. Consequently some of its locomotives caught the attention of railway enthusiasts when they graduated northwards to serve the last of their days on services in the East Midlands. Fortunately, one of the line's distinctive 4-4-2 tank locomotives survives in preservation.
The author, Bob Essery, is one of Britain's foremost railway historians and has been researching the history of the LT&SR for many years. This is a meticulous account of the line's origins, development, operations, locomotives and rolling stock. Well illustrated with a wide range of historic photographs and detailed line drawings. This definitive account of the LT&SCR will interest both railway historians and modellers.
