Sub-titled: In the Steam Era
One of the most distinctive features of the Wessex railway scene was the Weymouth Harbour Tramway. Connecting Weymouth station with the quay to serve the Channel Island steamers, the line tan through the streets of the town and along the waterside, thus giving it a quite unique character.
Although there were harbourside lines elsewhere, Weymouth was the only place in Britain where full-length trains of mainline corridor stock worked along public thoroughfares, competing with the regular road traffic for space in the congested streets.
This account provides an outline history of the line, details of the locos which worked it and the steamers it served. However, the main part of the book is a pictorial journey along its fascinating route through the streets.
