The British Railways Western Region diesel-hydraulic locomotives were always something of a favourite amongst railway enthusiasts. These locomotives were different to those on other regions, giving the Western a special character, until the demise of the diesel-hydraulic locomotive in Britain in the mid-1970s.
In this book John Vaughan presents a photographic record of the diesel-hydraulic locomotives in the far southwest of England, from both his collection and from those of others. The photographs depict long extinct locomotive types; the D800 "Warship" class 42, the D1000 "Western" class 52 and the D7000 "Hymek" class 35.
This evocative album depicts these unusual locomotive types in often delightful West Country scenery.
