The world famous 1 in 37 Lickey incline on the former Midland Railway (MR) route between Gloucester and Birmingham is the focus for this programme. The film was made in the period from 1960 to 1966 when the steam locomotives used for banking trains up the incline were kept at Bromsgrove. They banked trains as far as Blackwell, from where they returned down hill to Bromsgrove to await their next turn of duty.
Surrounding areas are visited, including Ashchurch, Kidderminster, Stourbridge and Worcester. Steam locomotives are much in evidence, ex-GWR, ex-LMS and BR Standard classes. Some early diesel types are included.
