Steam locomotives of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMSR) predominate this trip between Euston and Stafford via the former Grand Junction Railway line through the industrial area north of Birmingham in the early 1960s.
Of special interest are the Princess Coronation class Pacific locomotives which were designed by William Stanier and were still in 'top link' service at the time. When diesel and electric haulage were being planned these engines were considered for transfer to the Southern Region for further main line service out of Waterloo. But the plan was dropped, and these images record some of the final workings of this class.
