Aberdeen, Strathmore Line & Branches
Seventeen archive collections were used to create this feast of rail action in Scotland. It begins with scenes at Aberdeen in the 1930s and the 1960s, demonstrating that railway infrastructure on the former Caledonian Railway changed little over the intervening years.
The Strathmore route, between Stanley and Kinnaber Junctions, is remembered as the last stamping ground of the A4 Pacifies on the tightly timed Glasgow-Aberdeen 3-hour expresses. Forfar was the route's principal town, but also covered are the sleepy branches to Blairgowrie, Alyth, Newtyle, Kirriemuir, Brechin and through Kingsmuir to Dundee. 1960s footage predominates although the journey South from Aberdeen is illustrated using cine from the 1930s to the 1980s, maps, the occasional photograph and 'then and nows.'
Locations include:-
- Kirriemuir
- Alyth
