HM Yacht Britannia was used as a royal residence and for the promotion of British commercial interests overseas from her launch in 1953 until decommissioning in late 1997, during which time she became the most famous ship in the world. Britannia is now berthed at Leith Dockside, Edinburgh, where she is open to the public - which never occurred during her days as a royal residence.
